Expect much and get less

2007-11-26

Since the profits become less, many factories want to deal with the foreign buyers directly.
They used to work with the Chinese trading companies.
The factories always think the trading companies get big profits from the foreign buyers, but they earn small profits when they sell the goods to the trading companies.

So now more and more factories want to export directly to earn more profits from the buyers and they know the buyers are also happy to work with the factories directly.

But it is hard for many small factories to export directly to foreign countries. Why?
1)They don't know English.
2)They don't know foreign trade, they don’t know how to export.
3)They don't know how to get the buyers and serve the buyers.

Then they thought if they can find someone who worked in the trading companies and have the rich working experience, these things will be solved.
So here below is the story about my friend.

My friend used to work in a shoe trading company for several years.(in fact, we were the associate when we worked for the same trading company)
This year, the factory tried to get her out from the old company and persuaded her to work together, so she can help the factory to export directly to the world.
The factory set up an office in my city in June, and have my friend worked there.
Soon they came to the Germany fair in Seb.
The boss supposed my friend would bring him many clients from her old company, at least they would get a lot of orders from the Germany fair.
That was why that boss was willing to pay muchmore than USD1500 for that fair and accommodation fee there.
He thought what he get would be much more than what he pay…

But in fact, she didn't bring him any customers from her old company, the fair was not successful also.

Today, my friend said the factory is going to close the office, as the expense of having the office is huge, but their progress is so slow. So my friend will lose the job soon.

All things are difficult before they are easy!
It is not easy for a company to get the buyer and orders only through a fair.
The competition is so strong nowadays, the products, the price, the ability, the luck, every sector effect the business.

How can you hope to get the order so easily only thought a fair?
How can you expect to develop the foreign business so fast only for a short time?

If you don't have enough preparation mentally, how dare you to open an office? !

外企office常用电话语句

1. ABC corporation. May I help you?
　　ABC 公司, 我能帮你什么吗?

　　这句话算是制式的讲法. 一般接起电话的人通常会先报公司的名字 "ABC corporation", 然后再说, "May I help you?" 或是如果要更客气一点的话则可以说 "How can I help you?" (我该怎么帮你?), 因为这样的问法表示我‘该’怎么帮你, 而非我‘需不需要’帮你? 但基本上 "May I help you?" 跟 "How can I help you?" 都很常见就是了.

　　不过如果是机器接的电话, 则听到的多半是这样, "Thanks for calling ABC corporation, if you know your party's last name or extention, press 1. If you want to recieve information or publication, press 2. If you want to talk to the operator, press pound sign or remain on the line." (感谢你打电话到 ABC 来, 如果你知道你要找的人的姓或是分机号码, 请按 1, 如果是想要本公司的简介或出版品, 请按 2, 如果是要找总机, 请按 #, 或是请别挂断. 　　2. And you are?
　　你是?

　　如果人家打电话来是要找你的上司, "May I talk to your manager?" (我能不能跟你们经理讲话?) 这时你总不能糊里糊涂地就把电话拿给经理说, 说不定人家是打电话来跟你经理勒索一百万的呢! 所以通常我们一定要先确定打电话来的是谁. 最客气的问法是, "Whom I am speaking with?" 或是 "Whom am I talking to?" (我正在跟谁讲话呢?) 但是人家一听是像我这种小毛头打电话找他们经理, 他们就会用比较口语的说法, "And you are?" (你是?) 如果人家这样问我, 我就可以答, "This is Benlin."

像是 "And you are?" 这么口语的英文书上大概学不到, 但这却是老美天天在用的句子, 只怕你学了之后还不敢用. 其实真的不用怕. 越简单的句子老美越听得懂. 而且事实上 "And you are?" 这句话还有许多适用的场合, 例如在公司的接待处 (reception). 来访的客人如果说, "I'm looking for Mr. Wolf." (我要找伍夫先生) 接待小姐就可以反问他, "And you are?" (你是?) 所以像这种简单又好用的句子大家一定要记起来喔!

　　3. I'll put her on the phone. Just a second. 　　我会请她听电话, 请等一下。

　　Put someone on the phone 这个片语就是说请某人听电话. 例如你打电话找你女朋友, 结果女朋友的同事接了电话, 就开始跟你东扯西扯, 问你们昨天是不是吵架了啊? 什么时候要结婚啦, 这时如果你实在不想跟她讲了, 就可以说, "Could you please just put her on the phone?" (你能不能请她来听电话啊?) 反过来如果今天是你接到了电话, 结果要找的是别人, 你就可以说, "Ok. I'll put her on the phone. Just a second." (好, 我会请她听电话, 请稍等一下.)

　　上面讲的 put someone on the phone, 指的多半是只有一只电话时, 但如果像公司里有许多分机, 则用‘转接’ transfer 或是 redirect. 会比较恰当. 例如同样的情况你可以说, "I'm transferring your call." 或是 "I'm redirecting your call." (我帮你转接到分机给她.) 如果是接线生转接的话, 他们有时就只简单地说, "One moment, please." 或是, "OK. I'll put you through."

　　4. Would you mind holding for one minute?

　　你介不介意稍微等一分钟啊?

　　在美国如果有机会打电话给客户服务 (Customer Service)部门, 如果没意外的话都会听到以下的电话录音, "All of our representitives are currently busy serving their customers. Your call will be answered in approximate 5 minutes" (我们所有的客服人员都在忙着服务他们的顾客, 请等五分钟后, 就会有人接听你的电话), 然后十分钟过去了, "Please continue to hold, your call is very important to us." (请继续等候, 你的来电对我们非常重要). 所以大家要知道, 老美基本上对这种无止境的等待是深恶痛绝的. 所以要记得, 如果人家打电话来, 千万不要因为听不懂就说, "Hold on", 然后就跑去求救兵, 这对打电话来的人是十分不礼貌的.

　　如果万不得已一定要请他稍候, 我们要客气一点地说, "Would you mind holding for one minute?" 所以记得要给对方一个明确的时间, 例如 one second 或是 five minites 不要让对方无止境地等下去. 但是如果一分钟到了你还没忙完, 则最好再说一次, "Sorry, I am still on the phone. Could you hold for another minute?" (对不起, 我还在讲电话, 能不能再请你稍候一分钟.)

　　5. He's out for lunch. Would you like to try again an hour later?

　　他出去吃午餐了, 你要不要一小时后再打来? 　　受到中文的影响, 许多人要讲某人‘出去’吃午餐了常会说成, "He went out for lunch." 其实这个 went 是多余的, 通常老美只讲 be out for something 就行了. 如果要再简化一点, 单说, "He is on lunch." 或是 "He is on (lunch) break." (他正在休息时间.) 这样子也可以. (来源：英语麦当劳－英语杂志 www.EnglishCN.com)

　　如果别人要找的人不在, 通常我们有二种选择, 第一种是请别人晚点再打来, 除了像例句用 try again/ call again 之外, 我们也可以用 call back/ try back 这样的讲法. 例如你可以建议别人, "Why don't you call back in 30 minutes?" (你何不 30 分钟后再打来呢?) 第二种选择就是请对方留言, 客气一点的讲法是, "May I take your message?" 或是 "Would you like to leave a message?"

1.can you pop the trunk?
　　
　　你能不能打开行李箱.
　　
　　
　　因为一般打开行李箱都是说 open the trunk 但是老美也喜欢说成 pop the trunk. pop 是指某样东西突然跳起来的动作, 因为开行李箱时行李箱通常都是 "碰" 一下跳起来, 所以打开行李箱才会说成 pop the trunk.
　　
　　2. do you need a ride? we can car pool.
　　
　　你需不需要我载你啊? 我们可以共乘一辆车啊.
　　
　　
　　你要开车去载某人, 就是 give someone a ride. 这是很常用的说法. 另外关于 car pool, 指的就是二人以上共乘一辆车. 由于美国的交通阻塞问题也是十分严重, 所以有很多鼓励共乘的措施. 所以 highway 上有所谓的 car pool lane, 就是共乘车辆才可以走的专用道, 而我们学校共乘车辆的停车费也可以减免.
　　
　　
　　注意一下 car pool 在这里可以当成动词或是名词, 如你说 we can car pool, 这是动词的用法, 或是你也可以说 i am in car pool with someone, 这是名词的用法. 二者都很常见.
　　
　　3. i'll pick you up tomorrow.
　　
　　我明天会去接你.
　　
　　
　　pick up 这个字实在是很好用. 从以前介绍过的, 去拿作业叫 pick up the homework, 去摘水果也叫 pick up the fruit. 开车去接某人, 也叫 pick up.
　　
　　
　　接人叫 pick up, 那放某人放下来要怎么说呢? 就是 drop someone off. 例如你可以跟被你载的人说, where do you like me to drop you off. 或是光说 drop 也成, 例如, you can drop me around the corner.
　　
　　4. come on, jump in. (hop in)
　　
　　快点上车.
　　
　　
　　一般我们认为上车叫 get on, 但是其实 get on 只用在大的巴士, 例如坐公车是 get on the bus 或是骑马你可以说 get on the horse. 但一般小汽车是不能用 get on the car. 只有在有往上爬的动作时才能用 get on. 那要用什么才对呢? jump in 就是一个不错的字眼. 或是 hop in 也很常用. 有一次我同学开车来接我, 他就是说, come on, jump in the car.
　　
　　
　　同样的, 下车也分二种, 如果是从大车上下来, 如巴士, 就像我们以前所学的用 get off. 但是从小轿车中出来就不叫 get off, 要讲 get out. 例如, everybody gets out. 就是大家都下车吧

　　我的车是怎么呢? 我想我的车爆胎了.
　　
　　
　　出了什么状况, 在口语中最常讲的就是, what's wrong? 或是 what's going on? 我在美国就有一次爆胎的经验, 害我这个新任的台湾同学会会长蹲在马路旁边换轮胎搞得满身大汗还被学弟看到, 实在是丢脸啊. 爆胎就叫 flat tire, 算是固定用法.
　　
　　
　　
　　6. can we take it to the workshop and ask them to fix it?
　　
　　我们能不能拿去汽车保养场叫他把它补一补?
　　
　　
　　那次轮胎破了怀著惶恐的心情去汽车保养场补胎. 我真的是非常惶恐因为我不知道 "补胎" 这个英文要怎么说. 结果我当然就把它说成了 i have a hole on my tire, can you patch it? 嘿... 没想到那个老黑居然还听得懂. 不过后来我才知道原来补胎就是 fix the tire 就好了.
　　
　　
　　经验之谈, 十个人去补胎其中大概会有八个人他会告诉你这个胎不能补. 试想, 补一个胎 $8 换一个新的 $120, 我实在不相信这么小小的一个小洞会花去我 $120, 所以我还是坚持要补. 结果呢? 这个轮胎不是又跑了 5000 mi 了? 所以不要当冤大头啊! 当然啦~ 真的要换时还是得换的.
　　
　　
　　
　　7 we have a dead battery now. i'd better put this car in service.
　　
　　电池也没电了, 我想我该把我的车拿去保养了.
　　
　　
　　通常车子会发不动都是由于电池的关系. 而电池没电就叫 dead battery. 通常遇到这种情况就只能推车或是从别台车接电过来. 只要车子能发动, 车子的发电机会自行把电池充电, 所以就没问题了.
　　
　　
　　put something in service 也是个不错的用法, 指的是把某样东西送去保养或是修理. 像是有一次我坐一个同学的车, 他的车是十几年的老爷车, 但是冷气还很好. 我说, why is it still working so well? 他就说 i put it in service.
　　
　　
　　
　　8. i have a dead battery, can you jump my car?
　　
　　我的车子电池没电了, 能不能接电给我?
　　
　　
　　jump my car 跟 jump in the car 是完全不同的意思. 所谓 jump my car 就是指你车子的电池没电了, 你可以拿一条接电线 (jumper) 从别人的车子接电过来. 相信会开车的人或多或少都有这种 jump my car 的经验吧! 尤其在军中, 能够自己发动的车子实在是没几台, 所以 jumper 就成了每台车必备的工具了.
　　
　　
　　
　　9. my car won't start, i don't know why, it just won't crank up.
　　
　　我的车就是发不动, 我不知道为什么, 它就是发不起来.
　　
　　
　　发动车子一般用 start 这个字眼, 但是有一个口语的讲法值得一学就是 crank up. 也是发动车子的意思. 为什么叫 crank up 呢? 因为很早以前的车子或飞机它们的引擎是没有起动装置的, 所以要发动引擎都要先用一个马达连接一个曲柄 (crank) 去发动引擎, 所以久而久之, 发动车子就变成了 crank up.
　　
　　
　　
　　10. you can back your car now, my side is clear.
　　
　　你现在可以倒车了, 我这边己净空了.
　　
　　
　　别人在倒车时, 我都习惯帮别人看看后面有没有车子. 以前我都会说, there is no car now. 听来是不是不太顺. 后来有一次听老美在指挥, 我才知到原来他们说成, my side is clear. 或是 you are safe now. 或是 all clear 都可以

　　我知道在交流道那里有一家汽车修理店.
　　
　　
　　来美国自己开车才知道, 原来汽车修理店还分很多种. 卖汽车零件兼修理的叫 auto part store, 作钣金的叫 body shop. 还有专门换轮胎和换机油的店. 有时我就自己把它们总称 workshop.

This day ,I feeling very depressed , I have been working more one year since I graduation for universtiy, During the one year, I got a lot of things and lost many things , I thought, Many thing is double side ,have got and also have lose. But ,now, I found there not just about the question of got or lose , Those days, I feeling very vacancy, and too vacancy, let me feeling dryly. Now , I am a saler of foreign trade in a manufacture of heater. Producing this products, It have seasonal, From now to May of next year will on low season . Maybe somebody will say: Why not are you to find the new clients, I also thought that, But the company did't any Sales Platform，and many manufacture have this same proudcts, the competition for this products very severity ,and other manufacture have many other advantage . I feeling maze .I have plan to change a new job , But like this, I will lose more than half bonus and reduce commission ， I in order to get the deserved money, I must persist to end this year, The boring work will continued.

Many people wish the time slow down, However, I hope the time going fast .

How to improving the level of english is the most ordinary and the most question for many people , The same is a hard question for myself . Although, have been more ten years learning of english ,But the result is always to let myself disappoinment .
